Acupuncture/Rehab
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which has been used in conjunction with Chinese Martial Arts for thousands of years. Traditional training could be harsh, and injuries from fighting were common. It was considered an important skill to know how to treat and rehabilitate the human body. In modern clinical settings, a specialised BHsc (or equivalent tertiary degree) is needed to practice acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a form of neurological medicine, in which nerve endings are stimulated with a conductive steel needle. The needles are very small, and are not painful. Most patients find acupuncture to be a very relaxing experience.
Once the needles have reset motor impulses around an injured area, ‘Tuina’, or Chinese massage/manual therapy, is used to further release any damaged tissue that may be compressing blood vessels, nerves, or joints. The treatment will improve pain levels, and allow damaged joints to return to a full range of movement. The injury is then braced with strapping tape to give it extra support, and to encourage fast healing. Depending on the severity of the injury multiple session may be required until fully healed.
Acupuncture can also be used to help a range of health disorders relating to digestive function, stress/sleep cycles, mental health, reproductive health, and autoimmune disease. Traditional Chinese Medicine mapped out many of these nerve endings and developed methods of selecting points that would influence organ and endocrine function. These points can be combined to help regulate internal cycles/interactions, and restore health.
